Life history. The males fly around their habitat releasing pheromones to attract the attention of the females. T he genus Biblis contains just a single species - hyperia, which is one of the most distinctive and instantly recognisable species in the Americas. Both sexes are identical, and there is hardly any variation in the patterning, although the width of the bright pink band on the hindwing varies slightly. Biblis hyperia is commonly called the Red Rim as well as the Crimson-banded Black. It is a butterfly of shady roadsides and humid thorn-scrub forests where it can be found cruising lazily among the shadows.
